Vanille pt2

FINALLY, I have progressed!

A little bit.

There’s a shitload of beading to be done for Vanille; which I was able to complete quite quickly within two days. I plunked my fat ass in front of the TV and beaded while watching the World Cup lawl.

My poor coffee table was practically covered in beads and reference images and other random objects.

So I did an amount of beading ^ as shown…. and then I realised that they looked really ugly. Something clearly wasn’t right. Something was missing.

AND THEN I REALISED THAT I FORGOT TO INCLUDE THE TINY LITTLE BLACK BEADS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO GO IN BETWEEN THE GAY FLAT ONES.

KNN. Unstring and re-bead.

lkajflakhglahglkhalgaskfjlaknflknglaglajhgalh.

It got done eventually, though, and I’m quite satisfied with the result. It looks somewhat accurate. I also added in some pretty glass beads that I got for a dollar a packet, just to spruce things up a little.

Too much beading. -_- I shall not attempt any character with this many beads ever again.

My boots are cute though, at least. HAHA.

I have yet to tidy up the fur LAWL it looks like it exploded or something. I found a long strip of it in the scraps basket in spotlight so I just grabbed it. It’d look pretty awesome on the collar of a jacket too, I reckon. Or cuffs. I’ve quite a lot of it left.

The boots are flatties, so they’re not entirely accurate, but oh well. It’s forgivable.

NEXT – THE GAY FUR SKIRT THING.

NEXT WEEK. \o\

SEE WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TWO WEEKS AGO.

*SQUEALS*

Isn’t it the most gorgeous thing ever! Usually I’m really anal about spending too much money on a single item, but holding this baby in my hands just vanished instantly any heartache over the hole in my wallet. I was actually pretty surprised at how identical this was to the supplier’s promotional pictures. It’s practically like 1:1, and exactly to scale. My faith in suppliers is restored LOL.

There are a couple of things I need to do to it before it can be used, though. It needs a new coat of color because I find it not metallic enough, among other things.

BUT KYA I CAN’T WAIT TO PUT IT TO USE.

And anyway, to answer a question I’m sure people will have after reading this post – No, I do not disapprove of buying cosplay things. Personally, I don’t really bother how someone puts together a cosplay (if there’s nothing criminal involved), as long as they take charge of their own hobby, and the end result is true to the character. I’ve seen a countless number of debates online as to whether it’s blasphemous to buy or commission cosplays, and some of these discussions can become quite passionate. My stand is quite a simple one – I don’t care. People have different ideas about having fun. Some people like to make costumes; some people like to wear them and look pretty in them, some people like to become the characters, some people like to perform, yadda yadda. I don’t believe there’s any one right motivation in cosplaying. There’s no fixed definition as to what having fun cosplaying is supposed to mean.

I think it’s terribly elitist and stupid to go OH I MAKE MY COSPLAYS WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS. IF YOU DON’T DO THE SAME, YOU’RE NOT A REAL COSPLAYER/LAZY/DO NOT DESERVE RESPECT!!!1!!!ONE!!11 etc.

….Because real cosplayers must make their wigs from scratch, fibre by fibre, with their own two hands too, and not buy them from shops/suppliers. Good on you, man.

In my 4 years and counting in the scene, I’ve pretty much dabbled in a bit of everything – I’ve self tailored whole costumes from scratch, worked with professional tailors, had costumes supplied from overseas, sawed wood, burned my fingers with hotglue, moulded foam, sewed wigs together, bought things off shelves, the list goes on; I can safely say I understand the importance of having a bit of DIY know-how, it really improves your understanding of how things should be put together. But sometimes you just don’t feel like subjecting yourself to the nightmare of having to burn midnight oil during an exam period sewing a costume that you need for a major event in 10 days, but you really want to step into that event in that particular character’s shoes. Or, you might not have the skillset to complete a particularly complicated costume, but love the character to bits and are dying to cosplay him/her.

I find it very sad whenever I come across a stunning cosplay photograph online with comments going “looks pretty, but don’t think he/she made that herself. pffft” or “I’m better than XXXX because I make my own costumes” or (and this is a very common one) “Japanese cosplayers aren’t good because they buy their costumes, even if they do look very good”

Don’t get me wrong; I believe people deserve truckloads of credit for making cosplay things themselves, but I don’t believe DIY encompasses EVERYTHING that is cosplay.

So, people, let’s not be elitist. If people feel strongly that you don’t need to be gorgeous to enjoy cosplaying, then I think it’s the same to say that you don’t have to be pressured to make everything yourself to enjoy cosplaying, either. Let’s just enjoy the hobby for what it is – bringing characters to life (and making friends in the process), rather than bitching endlessly about the itty bitty things that don’t even matter. 🙂

A very lighthearted interpretation of Noctis and Stella’s characters. Don’t take this too seriously, because practically next to nothing about the game has been released besides a couple of trailers and costume-change announcements. *rolls eyes* Therefore, we’re not entirely sure how their characters are like, but this is what we gather from the trailers and Nomura’s commentaries.

Enjoy the photostory!

..Figuratively, of course.

This was another of those things that I wanted to do last minute and pushed through the sewing machine. It was pretty long ago and the costume never had a proper event or shoot, but I randomly remember the cotton for the costume being eggspensive. Wig was Lelouch wig, spiked nicely. Easy costume was easy. Got lazy though, and I bought the sword off the shelf in the end. It was really nice, but I never got to use it. Oh well.

…Okay, fine. So I’m a Narutard.

LOL.

Old habits die hard, I say.

Yes, more randomness and an inside look at what I do besides cosplay and study and gaming.

Ishida Mitsunari (1560 – 1600) was a samurai from the Sengoku Jidai and vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He’s also a playable character from Koei’s Sengoku Musou series, making his debut in the second instalment.

I think Mitsunari is an awesomely prickly character (in Sengoku Musou). They tweaked him around a little bit, particularly in the 3rd and most recent instalment, which, if I may angrily add, I will not get to play since it’s Wii exclusive. Here’s to hoping this changes. And omg! Kiyomasa and Masanori have real faces now!!11!!ONE! Masanori looks like a yankee, I highly approve. I also highly approve of the frat thing going on between the three that Koei made. And then betrayal! Pangseh! Drama plz I love it. ❤

But anyway, another random fact –

Catalogue image from CafeReo

I’VE BEEN DYING TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS SINCE IT WAS RELEASED BUT I HAVEN’T MANAGED TO. DOESN’T IT LOOK SO PRECIOUS. ❤

And now, what I do besides cosplay and gaming and studying. Everything in this random post is related, you see. LOL.

With an additional huge ugly watermark, and a mask representing the label “Fox of Sawayama” which has yet to be blocked in totally lulz. It’ll probably be a few days more between classes that I manage to finish this up, probably not even halfway there yet. And skintone needs to be fixed, among other things. And also hair, though that’ll take long since I don’ t use a tablet.

Illustration has always been my first love, even before cosplay. I stopped drawing some time ago, and, well, I’m very rusty now. Hopefully with a bit of practice and random doodling like this one^, that’ll change.

And of course, if you’re wondering what’s with the sudden spammage of Mitsunari-related stuff..

Well, this is a cosplay blog, do you really need to wonder? OTL
