Many Apologies T_T

I’ve totally neglected this blog, I’m terrible. I’ll now try my best to revive it and make an effort to update it after each shoot/event or with progress updates. \o\

A few reminders~

Readers can view most of my cosplay work on my DeviantArt gallery, and my FaceBook account. You can add me on Facebook if you want, Just note me telling me you follow my cosplays. Not trying to be all exclusive and elite here, but I just want to be as sure as possible that the people following me aren’t some random tom/dick/harry or epic trolls.

If you’ve been reading my blog and you have questions to ask, fire away!

Send me an email – tachibana.shizuka@hotmail.com

Please also note that I don’t usually check comments on my entries here, so don’t get offended or anything if you don’t get a reply to your comment. Please email me instead.

And as much as I would love to reply to everyone, I really don’t find it in me to entertain questions like “r u girl or boy????” or “how old r u???” or “r u single???”. Don’t take it to heart. 🙂

Finally, thank you so much to the people who’ve been visiting this blog even though it’s been kind of dead. I checked my blog stats just now and I was really surprised to find that there’s still some traffic going on. I’ll do my best to ensure that this place gets some kind of update at least once in a while so that you guys have something new and somewhat interesting to read.

Much love! ❤

SEE WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TWO WEEKS AGO.

*SQUEALS*

Isn’t it the most gorgeous thing ever! Usually I’m really anal about spending too much money on a single item, but holding this baby in my hands just vanished instantly any heartache over the hole in my wallet. I was actually pretty surprised at how identical this was to the supplier’s promotional pictures. It’s practically like 1:1, and exactly to scale. My faith in suppliers is restored LOL.

There are a couple of things I need to do to it before it can be used, though. It needs a new coat of color because I find it not metallic enough, among other things.

BUT KYA I CAN’T WAIT TO PUT IT TO USE.

And anyway, to answer a question I’m sure people will have after reading this post – No, I do not disapprove of buying cosplay things. Personally, I don’t really bother how someone puts together a cosplay (if there’s nothing criminal involved), as long as they take charge of their own hobby, and the end result is true to the character. I’ve seen a countless number of debates online as to whether it’s blasphemous to buy or commission cosplays, and some of these discussions can become quite passionate. My stand is quite a simple one – I don’t care. People have different ideas about having fun. Some people like to make costumes; some people like to wear them and look pretty in them, some people like to become the characters, some people like to perform, yadda yadda. I don’t believe there’s any one right motivation in cosplaying. There’s no fixed definition as to what having fun cosplaying is supposed to mean.

I think it’s terribly elitist and stupid to go OH I MAKE MY COSPLAYS WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS. IF YOU DON’T DO THE SAME, YOU’RE NOT A REAL COSPLAYER/LAZY/DO NOT DESERVE RESPECT!!!1!!!ONE!!11 etc.

….Because real cosplayers must make their wigs from scratch, fibre by fibre, with their own two hands too, and not buy them from shops/suppliers. Good on you, man.

In my 4 years and counting in the scene, I’ve pretty much dabbled in a bit of everything – I’ve self tailored whole costumes from scratch, worked with professional tailors, had costumes supplied from overseas, sawed wood, burned my fingers with hotglue, moulded foam, sewed wigs together, bought things off shelves, the list goes on; I can safely say I understand the importance of having a bit of DIY know-how, it really improves your understanding of how things should be put together. But sometimes you just don’t feel like subjecting yourself to the nightmare of having to burn midnight oil during an exam period sewing a costume that you need for a major event in 10 days, but you really want to step into that event in that particular character’s shoes. Or, you might not have the skillset to complete a particularly complicated costume, but love the character to bits and are dying to cosplay him/her.

I find it very sad whenever I come across a stunning cosplay photograph online with comments going “looks pretty, but don’t think he/she made that herself. pffft” or “I’m better than XXXX because I make my own costumes” or (and this is a very common one) “Japanese cosplayers aren’t good because they buy their costumes, even if they do look very good”

Don’t get me wrong; I believe people deserve truckloads of credit for making cosplay things themselves, but I don’t believe DIY encompasses EVERYTHING that is cosplay.

So, people, let’s not be elitist. If people feel strongly that you don’t need to be gorgeous to enjoy cosplaying, then I think it’s the same to say that you don’t have to be pressured to make everything yourself to enjoy cosplaying, either. Let’s just enjoy the hobby for what it is – bringing characters to life (and making friends in the process), rather than bitching endlessly about the itty bitty things that don’t even matter. 🙂

Yes, more randomness and an inside look at what I do besides cosplay and study and gaming.

Ishida Mitsunari (1560 – 1600) was a samurai from the Sengoku Jidai and vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He’s also a playable character from Koei’s Sengoku Musou series, making his debut in the second instalment.

I think Mitsunari is an awesomely prickly character (in Sengoku Musou). They tweaked him around a little bit, particularly in the 3rd and most recent instalment, which, if I may angrily add, I will not get to play since it’s Wii exclusive. Here’s to hoping this changes. And omg! Kiyomasa and Masanori have real faces now!!11!!ONE! Masanori looks like a yankee, I highly approve. I also highly approve of the frat thing going on between the three that Koei made. And then betrayal! Pangseh! Drama plz I love it. ❤

But anyway, another random fact –

Catalogue image from CafeReo

I’VE BEEN DYING TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS SINCE IT WAS RELEASED BUT I HAVEN’T MANAGED TO. DOESN’T IT LOOK SO PRECIOUS. ❤

And now, what I do besides cosplay and gaming and studying. Everything in this random post is related, you see. LOL.

With an additional huge ugly watermark, and a mask representing the label “Fox of Sawayama” which has yet to be blocked in totally lulz. It’ll probably be a few days more between classes that I manage to finish this up, probably not even halfway there yet. And skintone needs to be fixed, among other things. And also hair, though that’ll take long since I don’ t use a tablet.

Illustration has always been my first love, even before cosplay. I stopped drawing some time ago, and, well, I’m very rusty now. Hopefully with a bit of practice and random doodling like this one^, that’ll change.

And of course, if you’re wondering what’s with the sudden spammage of Mitsunari-related stuff..

Well, this is a cosplay blog, do you really need to wonder? OTL

Picture from Classe wig catalogue

This’ll definitely be a brand that I want to try. The character wigs are all awesome, and I think the mannequin’s face is so cute LOL. Classe has a shitload of colors too. There’s probably a shade for almost every character out there.

WHICH PLEASES ME IMMENSELY BECAUSE I HAVE YET TO FIND A WIG OF THE DESIRABLE SHADE FOR VANILLE.

This one looks perfect, but the 5200Y (and shipping) is enough to black both my eyes. I’d be extremely tempted to get it if I can’t find one of this color anywhere else though.

Okay, so it’s not even remotely funny, but..

My left hand isn’t the happiest hand at the moment, and my fingers aren’t exactly jumping for joy either. I have no idea at all what happened to make it so, but I’ve lost quite a substantial amount of control over my left hand. The last two fingers are now partially numb, and my thumb has lost enough strength that it can’t operate a nail clipper. I can no longer use that hand for a variety of tasks that require more dexterity than a tramping rhinoceros in NYC.

I’ll be going for a checkup soon, perhaps over the weekend, since I don’t fancy the idea of becoming one-handed forever, OTL.

Till I regain the proper usage of my left hand (I HOPE SO LAWL), I won’t be able to sew, or make props, or any such thing. Even typing requires a good bit of concentration (and frustrated, strangled yelling through excessive typos). So for now, beading and construction for Vanille (and other coses)  has to be put on hold.

..I’m just glad that my right hand’s fine, or I wouldn’t be able to study properly LAWL.
